Sleep > Sexsomnia
Sexsomnia is recently
identified 'new disease" sleep disorder or phenomenon which affects different people in different ways and there are two primary sexomnia activities which are; self masturbation and
sexual advances or interference with a sleeping partner.
While it is well known of and very common for boys to have wet dreams through
into manhood, girls and women also experience dream states in which they become
sexually aroused and even orgasm.
Sexsomnia as Self masturbation during sleep.
This is a very harmless and pleasurable activity for most people, but it can be
distressing for a partner who is sharing the same bed.
The behaviour most difficult to deal with for the partner of a person dreaming
heart of sexual advances and interference. Yet the offended partner needs to
cultivate a great deal of patience and tolerance.
Remember, this is an unconscious sleeping and could never be considered as
deviant or criminal behaviour.
Many observers of human nature, consider that orgasm is the highest spiritual
achievement of any person. It is a situation of intense pleasure that satisfies
the body and mind on all levels and releasing stress. Of course many people
consider masturbation, to be almost a crime, or a mortal sin or something
heinous and not to be indulged in and this is simply a sad reflection of the
state of our morality and civilization today that thinks that some of our body
parts and sex are somehow sinful or shameful.
Why does sexsomnia of occur? The short answer is that nobody knows but
observation tells us that it is related to sleepwalking and insomnia so that the
person sleepwalks all suffered from insomnia is the personality most likely to
suffer from the sexsomnia. As with many other variations in behaviour, or
perhaps the statement some sort of spiritual emergency and the subconscious
drive to provide the body with pleasure and release stress. Perhaps the person's
sexual needs have simply never been satisfied?
For some sexsomniaacs, the activity may be irregular only occurring once in a
while. Or for short periods during a sleep cycle, or it may last all night from
falling asleep until waking.
If you are suffering from sexsomnia, what can you do?
If you live alone the chances are, you may never know that you do it except for
are perhaps a little moisture on the sheets and provided you are not bothered by
the practice. Simply enjoy it, remember there is no good and bad. It is simply a
phenomenon, and the part of life.
However, if it is bothersome or has a negative effect on relationships and
family life perhaps your first call should be to a psychotherapist who may be
able to assist in identifying problem areas in your life.
Talk to your family and friends about it, talk about sex, and if you have an
active sex partner and you are, you have regular sexual activity, with plenty of
foreplay sexual talk through to completion and orgasm to a level where you feel
satisfied. Importantly, as with other insomniacs ensure that you get sufficient
physical exercise on a regular daily basis. As when the body is tired, sleep
cycles are more normalized.
When it's your partner who is manifesting this behaviour, sleeping beside them
when they are highly aroused can be almost impossible. So you might consider
joining in and participating so that you also have an orgasm after which you are
then more likely to go to sleep. But this seems unresolvable you may have to go
and sleep in another room.
