Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are a form of scarring on the skin caused by tearing of the
dermis, the layer of tissue that supports the skin and when it tears, the skin
stretches out of proportion to leave a visible stretch mark.
Stretch marks occur for a variety of reasons and the most common cause is from
the rapid stretching of the skin during periods of rapid growth and weight
change.
The most obvious, of course is from pregnancy, but stretch marks may also be
influenced by hormonal changes associated with puberty, bodybuilding, hormone
replacement therapy, etc.

female and
male.
Medical terminology for these kinds of markings includes striae atrophicae,
vergetures, stria distensae, striae cutis distensae, lineae atrophicae, linea
albicante, or simply striae.

Stretch marks are often formed during pregnancy, usually form during the last trimester, and
usually on the belly, but they also commonly occur on the breasts, thighs, hips,
lower back and buttocks and are known as striae gravidarum. They can even form
due to weight-lifting and some sports.
A Nutritional deficiency
A healthy skin requires a healthy body and when the body is in balance with
adequate nutrition, stretch marks are rare. During some life events like pregnancy,
the body secretes the glucocorticoid hormone that some researchers think may
cause increased skin fragility and susceptibility to tearing by interfering with
prevents the necessary collagen and elastin fibroblasts required for tight,
healthy skin. This however may be countered with good nutrition and
supplementation.
Natural Prevention
It's as simple as following a healthy diet, regular exercise and regular
massage.
-
A balanced diet provides the nutritional balance for the body chemistry to
harmonise and work as it should.
-
Regular exercise helps to maintain the health of the skin making it more robust
and resistant to over stretching.
- Regular massage helps to keep the skin strong and supple. When using organic
nutritional oils like rosehip, the skin is exercised and nourished, and the
affects of stress are reduced.
Social impact
In today's competitive world where our bodies are idealised and so many people are inclined to pass negative judgements on a less than perfect body is a cause of concern.
In a holistic sense, the body itself as the vehicle for our soul, but the competitive nature of our society demands that we keep ourselves looking good whereas the ideal is to be healthy.
Stretch marks are not an indication of poor health and we shouldn't be too concerned about them.

Stretchmarks on a woman's belly from childbirth signifies a right of passage and a service to civilisation, therefore they should be celebrated and treatments
are optional and a lot of women don't bother. When stretch marks occur in places like the upper arms, thighs, hips, breasts and buttocks, treatment is more likely taken
a specially when the person likes to spend time with their clothes off.
Stretch marks over time may diminish without treatment, but they will not
disappear completely, even after loosing weight unless treated.
Stretch marks on the body are not to be confused with facial wrinkles.
Treatments
You can reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and if they are not to severe,
eliminate them completely.
Surgical treatments for stretch marks, include dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser surgery.
The results maybe successful, but they are variable and depend largely on age,
general health and skin condition.
Eating well; a skin-friendly diet with foods rich in vitamins A and C, zinc and protein.
Oily fish, nuts, carrots and eggs. Your skin loves these foods, and you'd do well do make them a regular part of your diet, for healthy skin and great complexion. If any foods will reduce the formation of stretch marks, it's these.
Natural treatment like massage with organic nutritional oils like rosehip or
skinception tones and strengthens the
skin and its supportive tissues. With regular and usually self massage, stretch
marks fade over time.
