Environmental issues affecting our health and
longevity
Many see that the degradation of our environment is a major problem, yet many simply don’t care.
Those of us who are sufficiently enlightened agree that this earth,
our planetary home is key to our survival and needs to be preserved
if we are to survive as a species. The enlightened seek to harmonise
with nature is a way that we can live not only without damaging the
environment, but enhancing it.
On the other side of the fence we have those who do not care, they
are happy do destroy the planet for their own self interests and are
confident that they will be able to live their life to the full
before the earth expires. Of course there is justification that we
need the minerals, we need to remove the forests, we need to wipe
out entire species.
“A new survey of the scientific community has found near unanimous
agreement that human activity causes climate change. Citing the work
of more than 29,000 scientists in peer-reviewed journals, the
survey’s authors say the consensus on human-caused global warming
stands at 97.1 percent. Addressing the efforts by industrial
polluters to fund climate skepticism, the study’s lead author, John
Cook, said: “There is a gaping chasm between the actual consensus
and the public perception.”

Possibilities
It is known that with sensible and sustainable agriculture, Planet
Earth can support our increasing population by farming a smaller
land area than presently allocated to agriculture. Organic,
Biodynamics and Permaculture all hold vital keys which need to be
implemented and we need to do away with monoculture.
To achieve environmental harmony, humankind must overcome its self
imposed limitations, we must realise our divinity and adopt a policy
of harmlessness and just based on a true understanding of
divinity
What is just?
Mankind has never been able to live in harmony with themselves or
with nature for any extended period, in part this may be due to
ignorance of who he/she is. But justice is a tool of leadership used
to justify behaviour that is not necessarily honest or true, or
serves the needs of humanity. But rather than get into criticisms
about human failure, let us acknowledge that mankind must wake up.
Science says we have about 100,000 years before we finally go
extinct, or cease to be human due to the rate of increasing
infertility.
Unfortunately the world of the twenty first century is ruled by
economics and corporate values, not human values. In fact humans
have simply become tools in the machine, conspirators forced by
economics to participate in the global destruction.
Metaphysically, the Earth is divinely feminine, the Earth is an
alive and sensitive intelligence which give life to all creatures
without judgement or discrimination. A manifestation like Kali, she
gives and yet for no reason, forces beyond cause localised
destruction. Mankind however simply takes and takes without giving
back, taking without thought of the consequences, action without
responsibility to serve an ego disconnected from it’s source.
Disconnection causes a systemic failure within humanity, a failure
that allows corporate dominance, a failure that is reducing the
education system, a failure that makes life more difficult for the
enlightened and an acceleration towards our demise as a species.
Solutions
The green movement and green politics are a step in the right
direction and everyone awakening to the danger must vote green, even
though the green movement is a political juvenile. As individuals we
must continue to grow into our divinity become more in tune with the
nature of the Earth.
Many see the Earth and the human species as a lost cause although
once humans have become extinct, the Earth will recover and produce
new species, the only solution is enlightenment and a spiritual
freedom that can find balance within chaos.
This enlightenment is something intangible that cannot be described
and it calls for our peaceful co-existence as those concerned for
life need to all live and pull together in order to survive and
resist the rape of the Earth. This means co-operating to overcome
the ‘red tape’ that restricts life, like voting for your local
council and sharing co-operative housing to reduce living expenses.
Green is the New Red
The Journey from Activist to “ECO-Terrorist” By Will Potter
illustrates changes in legislation that effectively denies rights of
consumers to know what they are eating. At a time when everyone is
going green, most people are unaware that the FBI is using
anti-terrorism resources to target environmentalists. Here is a
guided tour into an underground world of radical activism and an
introduction to the shadowy figures behind the headlines. But here
also is the story of how everyday people are prevented from speaking
up for what they believe in. Like the Red Scare, this “Green Scare”
is about fear and intimidation, and Will Potter outlines the
political, legal, and public relations strategies that threaten even
acts of non-violent civil disobedience with the label of
“eco-terrorism.” Learn more and purchase.
“The more we want certain situations, the more we find ourself stuck
in situations we do not want. Every desire seems to invite its own
obstacle. Undesired situations befall us without our looking for
them. In fact, the only things that come effortlessly are the things
we do not want. No one wants to die, but death comes effortlessly.
No one wants to be sick, but sickness comes effortlessly. Because we
have taken rebirth without freedom or control, we have an impure
body and inhabit an impure environment, and so undesirable things
pour in upon us. In samsara, this kind of experience is entirely
natural.” Geshe Kelsang Gyatso – “Modern Buddhism”
